Candle Care and Burning Instructions For Safety

Candle Care and Burning Instructions

Candles are a delightful way to enhance the ambiance of your space, but it's important to use them safely and responsibly. Follow these guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable candle-burning experience:

1. Trim the Wick: Before lighting your candle, trim the wick to approximately 1/4 inch (0.6 cm). A shorter wick will prevent excessive flickering, soot, and uneven burning.

2. Use a Suitable Holder: Place the candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Always use a candle holder specifically designed for the particular candle size and shape you are burning.

3. Avoid Drafts: Place your candle away from drafts, vents, or air currents. Drafts can cause uneven burning, dripping, or, in extreme cases, the candle to tip over.

4. Burn in Intervals: It's recommended to burn candles in intervals of 1-2 hours. This helps prevent tunnelling, where the candle burns down the middle, leaving wasted wax on the sides.

5. Be Patient: Allow the candle to create a full melt pool (liquid wax reaching the edges) on the first burn. This prevents the candle from forming a memory ring and encourages an even burn for future use.

6. Extinguish Safely: Use a snuffer or gently blow on the flame to extinguish the candle. This prevents hot wax from splattering. Avoid using the lid or any other object to put out the flame, as this can cause the wick to drift off-centre.

7. Centre the Wick: After extinguishing the candle and the wax is still liquid, gently reposition the wick to the centre using a wick dipper or similar tool. This ensures an even burn during the next use.

8. Avoid Over-burning: Do not burn the candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Let the candle cool and trim the wick before relighting for an extended burn.

9. Keep the Wax Clean: Remove debris, such as wick trimmings, from the candle before lighting. This prevents anything from catching fire and ensures a cleaner burn.

10. Store Properly: Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent colour fading and maintain their scent.

11. Discontinue Use at 1/2 Inch: Discontinue burning the candle when only 1/2 inch (1.27 cm) of wax remains. Burning the candle beyond this point can cause the container to overheat.

12. Keep Out of Reach: Always keep burning candles within sight and out of the reach of children and pets.

By following these instructions, you can enjoy the warm glow and pleasant aroma of your candles while ensuring safety and maximising their burn time.
